I have just become a 'supporter' here. You can blame Chris Were for me being here at all. It was via one of his rambly vlogs that I came across Neocities. of course as soon as I paid up the site started glitching on me but c'est la vie.
It's been a glitchy morning. My television remote is not working which makes traversing YouTube très difficile. It's not even the remote (I have a spare similarly affected) but the infrared receptor on the LG TV itself.
But anyway, you can say I've made an effort - at least as much of an effort as logging into PayPal is and mounting Neocities on my PC's drive via webdav. A couple of days ago an expat friend asked if I had seen Mr Jolly Lives Next Door, a Comic Book Presents comedy. He sent the link which because of copyright only worked via VPN. So I couldn't watch on my big fuck off TV* but only on the mobile or laptop. So I didn't finish it and I told him the reasons why. I then started to get voice messages via Signal. Didn't I have an HDMI cable? I could hook up my laptop to the TV like that and watch it. Or why didn't I download the video off YouTube and plug a USB into the back of the telly and watch like that etc etc. Now of course I am perfectly capable of doing all these things. But frankly, I don't like being set homework* to do in my free time. Mr Jolly is OK but I could just about struggle to the end of my days without having watched it without too much pain. And besides it is just more mindless consumption, more screentime at a time when I am advocating less screentime.
Many every day things fail these tests. Arguing with people online is too much effort. Turning up to someone's get Rich Quick scheme talk is not worth it. Reacting to outrage porn is taking valuable time away from doing better things.
Should I make an effort?
